What should have been a training race turned into a race full of satisfaction for the Honda RedMoto World Enduro Team.

The first race of the European Championship was run on 17th and 18th April in the centre of Italy at Castel Di Tora in Lazio, situated in the province of Rieti. On the Saturday, the team was on the first two steps of the podium with Thomas Oldrati and Theo Espinasse, with Roni Kytonen fourth, just a whisker away from third position.

It was a Sunday to remember with Oldrati again taking the victory, Espinasse second and Kytonen completing the podium.

It was a solid test for Oldrati, Espinasse and Kytonen, whose aim was to prepare for the next meeting on 24th and 25th in Piediluco (TR) for the third seasonal round of Italian Enduro Championship.

The excellent teamwork of the technicians guided by Matteo Boffelli, was to fulfil the best set up of the bikes and confirm a further step forward in the performances of Honda-RedMoto CRF 450RX Enduro of Oldrati and his two CRF 250RX Enduro bikes of Espinasse and Kytonen, in view of the next national meetings in May and the beginning of the Enduro World Championship in mid-June.

It was a wonderful weekend of racing for Thomas Oldrati and remarkable management of each phase of the nine special races disputed on the Saturday and the six races disputed on Sunday, the last three timed races had been cancelled due to the bad weather.  After his success at the end of March in Sicily at the Enduro Championship, Oldrati confirmed the improvement of his physical condition after a recent thumb injury which required surgery.  The supremacy of Oldrati and his Honda-RedMoto CRF 450RX Enduro was confirmed on Saturday by the best time obtained in eight special races and one second position, and on Sunday he won two races by ending the remaining four, twice in second position, with one third and one fifth.

It was a big race for Theo Espinasse who was really quick too; on Saturday he won a special,  was second seven times and had one fourth. On Sunday he was the quickest four times, with one second and one third.

Roni Kytonen was also on top form all weekend, on Saturday he was third three times, had one fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and was tenth twice, while on Sunday he took one second, one third, two fourth finishes, one fifth and one sixth.

The next meeting for the Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team is the third race of the Italian Enduro Championship planned for April 24th and 25th in Piediluco (Terni).

Thomas Oldrati

“I really ran a crazy two-day race, I’m very satisfied with that, also because conditions of the right hand have improved and allowed me to train consistently on my bike. It was very positive weekend on the whole, where we took some steps in the right direction. We have to keep on working because we can still improve and I can find the right feeling. I thank all the team, our sponsors and technical partners, Fiamme Oro and my partner Sara who is expecting a baby for the beginning of June”.

“I can’t be but very happy. Two second absolute places, behind Thomas, are really a good result. On race, I felt really good, while I kept the pace of the best times in all various special races. I did my best anyway and I’ll keep on doing more. That’s why I thank the team for the great work it is doing and is putting at my disposal from the technical package”.

Roni Kytonen

“On Saturday unfortunately the race was not as good as I hoped. In some special races I was very good, while in some others I made some mistakes that made me lose the third position for just few seconds. On Sunday, I redeemed myself by ending third with a brilliant result because we got a trio with a podium fully of Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team. Here, the feeling with my bike was really exceptional and I felt I had the right pace. The experience I acquired will be certainly useful for the future”.
