Jasper Iwema
Jasper Iwema is the only Dutch rider in the Road Racing World Championships, representing the Netherlands for the fourth year, now in the Moto3 class.
Iwema enjoyed football as a youngster, but also attended races at the Circuit van Drenthe, the Cathedral of Motorcycle Racing, as well as in Germany and France. His first foray into the racing world came in a minibike race in Assen. In 2003 he chased his first title in the Dutch Pocketbike Championship, a title he won the following year.
Graduating to the 125cc Aprilia Junior Cup in the Dutch Open Championship, Iwema won the title his first time out. He branched out to race in the German ADAC Junior Cup.
Then followed a fourth in the 125cc class of the Dutch national championship in 2006, a year in which he also raced in Germany. Continuing the path of racing in multiple championships, he raced in the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain in 2007 and again in 2008. His best season-ending finish came in Germany, where he finished fifth overall. Then it was time to move to the 125cc World Championship.
Riding a Honda RS125 for Racing Team Germany, Iwema was only able to score points in one race, Le Mans, his first year. His second year in the class brought a change to the CBC Corse Aprilia team. Iwema scored points in the first six races and nine overall, with a best of eighth in the Czech GP in Brno. In 2011, on the Ongetta-Abbink Metaal Aprilia, Iwema fell to 23rd in the championship.
Iwema will contest the inaugural Moto3 World Championship on for the Czech Moto FGR team aboard an FGR Honda.
